Cape Carnival

autumn is upon these southern parts
and a new season is welcomed

still one sees old customs
disguised as new arts

men – without doubt are creatures of ritual
and arguably, nothing could’ve been more splendid in their eyes than the sight of exotic dancers moving in a kaleidoscope of colour

women – who’d often flout when there’s no feature of the nuptial
were applauding when the fire engine rolled by with men in clay orange zipped down jumpsuits showing off their power

surely autumn is upon these southern parts
and the new season well-received

still one recognises the old tricks
up their new sleeves
