Pop ii

we now live under the dominion and force of public opinion
with many never knowing, never questioning, how that came to be, that we so desperately seek popular validity, as if it were law

I say so, for there was once a time when they all knew the law
and they all knew that they knew the law
and the law was a thing that they knew naturally
as they knew fishing and hunting, Stimson once told…

a time when they recognised with clarity, as the sunlight and moonshine
and the laws of life were universal custom

but not anymore
in this world of war
which Clausewitz said to be the continuation of politics by other means

not anymore
when the fame drug is all that is prescribed

not anymore
they say different laws for different times

but just know
that the law is the lord
what you make of it
and nothing more

  6. I have been missing your posts, Heath.

Good to have, again, your provocations, invocations, protestations and wordy gesticulations in my reader.

A rejoinder: we live also in a time when anyone can be anyone’s friend, when we find, on a daily basis, no matter the extremity of our circumstances, that we are not alone in them. We live in a time when the greatest empires of expansive oppression can fall, almost overnight, without a shot fired.

So, there is hope too in this tide of transition, when the people of the world are finally becoming acquainted with one-another, their insight into the rest of humanity’s desires, motivations, needs are no longer fed to us solely through an apparatus of agenda. If Iwant to know what it is like being a Muslim in Afghanistan, I can ask one.

That is liberation, my friend. 😉
