who knows it
that which when arrived at
cannot be told or communicated
without deviating from it

who has it
that which can’t be carried or moved
the ever present
the same as madness

Love Lodestar

she was my handle
when I was weak

my Florence Nightingale
when I was sick

the lapel flower
upon my chest

until the hour
she up and left

Memory Stain ii

says she truly wants to let go
now that she has a new man
although it’s proving a struggle
because it doesn’t feel the same

says her feelings for me are still an obstacle
but she’s done with my games
and nothing remains but the rubble
so she’ll give him a chance

The Lewd Life of Lucian Lansdowne iii

allow me to put in my two cents…
you see, I know I can love a woman
as much if not better than Sappho of Lesbos
can you not tell from reading these poems?

if only I could find one
deserving of her own temple
one with a penchant for rhythm
and a perfect embouchure
who’d vow to be my hetaira
my Lamia of Athens

who I will beget children by –
daughters to coddle and give Pat Cutforth dolls houses
and sons who will take my –
legacy to the tops of mountains

fill your heart with love
for all
that there be no space for woes
since truth will be enough

then feed your mind the right stuff
and only breathe the pure
knowing when to close your nostrils when there’s a sandstorm
just like a giraffe

Rhapsody no. # v

although very much a man of his time
as regards his opinions of the races of other men
there’s still no shame in the mention
and one can’t help but agree with him – Wagner
when he says ‘music is a woman’

for in truth she is… sensation and rhythm
pleasure and pain
and I – her biggest fan

but until we meet
tears will drip
