Drawn Too

I have to move on
go at it alone

and though a part of my heart you’ll always own
my passion truly lies in the unknown

the sweet strife and self-sacrifice
at every stop… only to continue
on the road to paradise

living the free life
of self interest

where I feel at home

Decades Dreaming of Democracy

once I thought democracy was the use of all nature’s resources
by all the inherent and developed mental and physical powers of man
for the good of all people

but as I came to live in one, I also became aware
that the sources from where I had gotten my distorted view and understanding of it had deceived me

it was not what I had dreamed
for it seemed to me nothing more than just a system that, in my time, had taken the lead

right then I was convinced
of the unchanging law of humanity

Sketch for a Theory of Persistent Passions iii

all they do is sow seeds of doubt
in your mind
now you’re questioning what we’re about

questioning our love

all of a sudden I don’t give you enough of my time
… insinuating that it’s not all about the art

how ironic that you think we should have some time apart

don’t you see you’re only allowing them room to get closer
haven’t you realised it only has meaning when I’m in it with you

can’t you tell they’ve never had me the way you do…

and as far as the art goes
I’m sure in time you’ll discover that it was never lost

Portia Galactica VII

she had the striking shine of precious metal
with traces of time faintly etched on her skin like a silver Sumer shekel
and though in her golden years, she was still sweeter than maple – the best he’d known since his youthful days when the sap was rising

a true treasure finding…
for so long he had been pining for

The Most Beautiful Woman in Paradise

on a hill way above the high rises
Her and I – spending time
in Higgovale heights

Tanqueray with a slice of lime
chandeliers hanging off the pine roof
everything bright – from the city lights to the stars in the sky
even the water blue hues from the balcony pool…

and as she stripteases to the rhythm and blues
I swear she is the creator’s masterpiece – in my view
the most exquisite of all in sight

the most beautiful woman in paradise

the disimprisonment of the soul
which is freedom after all
has nothing to do with power of the poll
only self-control

The Lewd Life of Lucian Lansdowne v

I’ll live how I want to live
even if it means being fashionably out of place like a dandy in Brazzaville

because see, I am not looking to receive the plaudits of the critics
they should all just let me ‘sit under my vine and under my fig tree’ as Micah put it
or in my utopia as described by Major Douglas in Social Credit

and since I’m not interested in what is acceptable
in the eyes of the lifestyle pundits and the astroturf lobbyists
I’ll live how I want to live
subservient only to my will
