Poems, Charms & God’s Vineyard vii
Posted: November 20, 2015 Filed under: Inhibitions Illustrated, Writings by one ambidextrous... 10 Commentswe started off as friends
spending time and sharing common fancies
over time the passionate relations turned into intimate engagements
mornings, afternoons, evenings…
whenever we could steal moments to get wrapped up in our sensual cocoon
now that a few years have passed
since we severed our ties
I am hopeful that you’ve been blessed
with all you’ve ever wanted out of life
and by now any feelings born of our memory should be lost to you
not in any way callous for I know it is true for me too
on most days, but on others, the remembrance I cannot seem to lay to rest
because we shared a connection I had never before felt
one that holds especial significance
since for me it gave meaning to the idea of romance
even if it’s something I may never again experience
still, those feelings – unique to our love
will always be with me

The Conflicted Life of Cocky Humble vii
Posted: November 18, 2015 Filed under: Writings by one ambidextrous... 4 CommentsSetting: Humble Studios
Personae: Cocky Humble, a sculptor; Sonia, his longtime lover
a man is his doing
so I didn’t see any harm
bringing up Borglum
know what I’m saying?
well, I could tell they weren’t so sure if you were playing dumb
or baiting them to their ruin
I made no caustic comments about the man’s sui generis nature
I simply spoke on his work
still, they seemed a little uncomfortable
if you pay too much mind to the people in this business
it’s so easy to turn into one of them ignoramuses
I simply like the man’s stone work
and when we finish building our home I want sculptures carved into its granite faces. so what – they didn’t expect I’d appreciate the man’s work because I am black and he was in the KKK?
seems shallow to me
inhibited reverence is all they exuded
very cautious… sparing admiration
in any case I don’t feel bad about it
I admire Borglum’s work, yes.
and if I have to be around that lot again
I’ll probably bring up Cress-Welsing in conversation and see how they take that… people need to stop being so assuming and sensitive… art is very much alike knowledge, you know… it’s all in the interpretation and ultimately what you do with the art or the knowledge
I get all that but you’re not going to bring up anything sweetheart because I’m granting your wish, I’ll handle all the business from now and I won’t drag you to those dinner meetings again
phew! you’d be saving me princess… but think about the absurdity of it all – the fact that most works of art, which if great are imbued with rebellious energy, always end up in the possession of those who fear what those works inspire the most
if that is true then perhaps that is why they buy them… yours included… to stop…
eh, you don’t say… could it…

Seizure by Song
Posted: November 17, 2015 Filed under: Words In Imaginary Motion 1 Commentafter hours of an uncomfortable oscillating rigidity and laxity of temperament
the back and forth in his mind about whether the move was right and that was to be the night…
he finally gathered the courage and broached the subject he had been avoiding all along that evening
and once he got started, the words flowed out of him with diluvial effect
drowning all other noises about the room and defying Cicero’s view that ‘war is contention by force’. this was a declaration of war, yes. but no force, all conviction – judging by the empirical evidence he was giving to support his argument
sensing that his vested power was unchallenged, he proceeded to execute the self-coup

that is true indeed
and there’s hardly escaping the need to engage, so we act
often feeling the emotions which we portray
measured up against the reality of the facade

Lines Under the Ocean
Posted: November 16, 2015 Filed under: Words In Imaginary Motion 3 CommentsI had a vision to build
a channel for communication – a link
and I was prepared to work for it
as much as or more than Cyrus West Field
so I allowed myself to contemplate nothing but success
and gave thought to my glorious vision by day and dreamed of it by night
