Poems, Charms & God’s Vineyard ix

function creates structure
even though many a construct outlive the usefulness
but I vowed not to let my raison dêtre persist as a poetic impediment
but rather as a benefit to my love

all allure
the Dionysiac way
spontaneous and sensual
but still true to my nature

because all I wanted was to see her smile
and do it with the soft and velvety touch of a rose geranium
so I set about performing my courtship ritual
in sweet style like a troubadour
the kind of Romance you’d imagine only existed in southern France
during the late Middle Ages

and I promised to spread ylang-ylang flowers on our bed
like the Indonesians do for their newlyweds
but first she had to chose me… the ultimate aphrodisiac

and I swore never to treat her like a Turkish odalisque
but let her voice be heard and listen to her… every chance that I would get
also pledged my commitment as a token of my love
and made an oath to dedicate my works to her… my muse
for I needed her… my inspiration
to help me create more
and draw luck to the door of my mental
and better still, let her dwell inside my heart, her home
