what a little money can do for self-esteem
what a little love can do for well-being

still, having all those things… to him
could never compare to the freedom in exercise of creativity

the grand vision – like Sun Yat-sen’s for the Three Gorges Dam
…in pursuit of it daily – like doing it for the fam…

the zone he’s been in lately
as if to the work he’s married

but to reach for a dream it has to be so – clearly
it’s never been a question of whether to do it or not
and as Socrates put it, “let him do either and he will repent it”

thus I had to agree to the release of ‘A Bird of Stone’ in twenty-nineteen
even if unknown – they expect a masterpiece – for the plentiful patronage …
but as Balzac explained it “poetry and women show themselves naked only to their lovers!”
still, to meet the deadline – one cannot rest on his laurels

if you could see him now
the man he’s become
through battles he’s lost and some that he’s won
you should be unsurprised to know that he’s doing it on his own
terms and time
steadily in control

into a monarch of art he’s been transformed
so weekend he celebrates with the right degree of pomp
with a Dame like Ellen McArthur… to sail with him to São Tomé…
a seductress… with better speed and sophistication than a Hyperloop pod

whispers in his ear “existence is home”
suddenly he sees beyond… amor patriae
and follows her along – like the muse he adores

a poet and purveyor of prose
he knows love has no value in the absence of lust
and that every piece plays its part
in the layers
