A Life’s Work

how can you ever get it right
if you don’t even try?

do you know you can carry a sizeable load
but still make it feel light?

live today for tomorrow you die
tell me, what do you want to be remembered for?

start your life’s work tonight
and don’t wait upon dawn!

The Better Being ii: Architects of Etiquette

even the best tailored suit, tie or sock from Henry Poole
cannot disguise how stupid the fool who plays a joke on self looks
as he attempts to become something other than who he is
by emulating another’s culture and ‘cool’
like the newly wealthy coming from the east to experience the western school
just so they can feel better off than others of their stock back in the country where they belong
without realising that self-worth has little to do with what one possesses
or with conforming to standards set by architects of etiquette
because when one gains insight into class constructs as designed by man
it’s clear to see that not one towers the many
as long as people share a common humanity
and that a deeper understanding of being
disqualifies the notion of coming under another’s perceptual rule
and only then can one become aware of the fact that equality is kin

Aerial Love iii

she had on a pair of Sophia Webster’s…
and a lacey pith under her sheer dress
which held her voluptuous parts place

Leo lady, radiant flower
the way you light up my fire
like a Perseids meteo shower

I can’t feel my face
on a natural high
when in your sweet embrace

oh baby, just one more hour
is what you say as if my love’s for hire
but I guess there’s always a cost associated with the fulfilment of every desire

Game of Throngs vii

instead of trying to always get on top of problems
try getting to the bottom of them
but realise that it’s no easy undertaking
because the very action gives rise to a battle
between your instincts and conscious mind
and in that effort to understand if and why your natural reactions are indeed best to follow
you risk failure, criticism and persecution from the throngs
who often aren’t so brave enough to change tomorrow

Sweet Valley Way

there we found ourselves
melon scented candles next to the bed
hard to imagine even a Baldacchino Supreme would provide the same comfort we discovered on the heath

optimal sensation
the highest point of pleasure concentration
a climax of our predilection for passion

love making

Penman Blues iii

these stories I live
for your amusement

motives
motifs
ever-present

believe it
I was meant for this
to serve, to please
whether or not you appreciate the token

looking past hurt
maybe I deserved it
or perhaps got used to it

work, baby, work
I know nothing else but this

Rumour Ring

she said the man went broke
he said the guy lost his soul
and now all he does is drown himself in drink
while he smokes in sorrow

they said he cheated with the girl next door
and broke all protocol

too many other things they spoke of
but if there’s truth to any of it lord knows

either way one thing is for sure
it seems every day the rumours grow

Steenways Street

this time the missus and I went to a formal dinner with the scions
and as soon as we entered the parlour all eyes were upon us
as if our wide smiles and equanimity was something new on the scene
the way this antiquated crowd went into a panic as we took our seats at the ZinX table on a dais
whispers filling the air as if it we’d caused some kind of public scandal
like she was a portrait of Madame Vigée-Lebrun showing her teeth
and I was Daniel entering the lion’s den with no security

Lit Lyric vii

I composed a note for her
Inspired by the Fantasie in C

As if she was Clara
And I – the Schumann

Since for her I was crazy
La la la la la

The way I needed her love
Every single day!

The Better Being

don’t be the supercilious fool
who only concerns self with another’s shortcomings or subjective cool
instead of that which is germane to the valuation of one’s own true worth
or the thought assessment of their own school
which is only possible if they’re able to shed the epidermis of their preceding self
