Living for Eternity

Dreams are first ideals before they are made real
And as your vision is, so will your life be

With that in mind, make an effort to know all that will help you shape the fabric of your common mould
Then make it your own

Have resolve and work toward the attainment of your life’s goal

Be a man in the truest sense by never parting with your independence for any consideration

Be the embodiment of ethical behaviour but set your own moral standards
For every man with good enough reason will understand the law that what he gives is what he’ll get

Control your destiny and don’t waste away watching from the sidelines
Or living vicariously through other people’s existence

Do what you love and be the best at it

Worry yourself not with another’s choice or achievement
Instead, follow only your inner voice

And should you ever find yourself amid a flock – better be the bellwether

Preserve your vitality
Not through cryonics but by living for eternity

Generate your wealth through honest means
Instead of being philanthropic with ill-gotten gains like the Junk Bond King

Shine bright like the half-moon on a spring night
But be humble like the starlight that ignites perpetual passion

Keep your ideals a little out of reach to give yourself something worthy of pursuit

Listen to the way your heart beats and it will lead you in the right direction

Precision of Purpose

A dozen cicadas on a tree trunk make such a racket that an entire garden will ring with their importunate chink
While a lone leopard stealthily moves across the plain with greater precision of purpose
In light of such observations, one would think it is not so much the frequency with which a cry is uttered but instead the fervency of the echo which gains one the world’s respect

Also, it is a fact of life that in order to qualify, one must first measure up to set specifications
And a man’s use of his time is emblematic of his self-worth
So the drifter with no objective or aim seldom stumbles upon opportunity for he cannot identify it even if in sight
While she of intuitive and self-directed intent becomes queen regnant with superior might

Make Mondays Meaningful Too

If the lord affords you breath this day
Be dutiful and resilient
Learn from yesterday’s challenges
But leave past achievements where they belong
And focus instead on the road ahead

Forge new paths and explore new avenues
Be productive instead of leeching off others
Remember, what you receive for nothing is worth no more than the price you pay for it
And understand the difference between what you get and what you deserve

Know also that existence is a sequence of fleeting moments and lasting impressions
And life a realm of possibilities wherein those who cultivate the habit of always anticipating the most favourable outcomes get the most enjoyment

Therefore, imagine that you can do something
Think of how you would do such a thing
Visualise yourself doing it
Then picture yourself having successfully done so

For courage and fear both have their source in the imagination
That gift of creative impetus bestowed on all, yet not always equally exercised by man

No Woman, No I

There’s a young lady in my life
Resourceful, loves to help the needy
And raises her daughter so well
It amazes me

I have a sister who has noble aspirations
Smart achiever, a believer
With two beloved boys
They like to talk to uncle on the phone and flatter me

I have another sister
Reminds me a little of myself
Full of potential and destined to win
She has the coolest son
The most handsome little fellow

I have a mother
Larger than life
Firmly grounded, with the biggest heart
The deepest thinker I know
I found a best friend in she

I had a grandmother
Pillar of the family
Well-respected, nursed an entire province
Legendary status

All the women in my life
Are who inspire me!

The Power to Shape

Should you be faced with indecision, let decorum give way to duty
For it is from a lofty sense of responsibility that the mightiest energy springs
And the more you give, the more you’ll keep
Since the act of enriching is what affords the soul its peace

Be as the light that transfigures morning dew-drops into diamonds
And not like the veiled hoard of relics stored at a free port
With valuable antiques and all sorts of commoditised human efforts
Cold and concealed creations whose lifeblood has been drained by the siphons of commerce
So-called art that is completely divorced from the intent which birthed it
And is of no benefit whatsoever to mankind

Remember, the quality and impact of influence corresponds to the character of one who exercises such power to shape…
And what’s not revealed to the eyes of the masses cannot possibly move hearts, let alone shift consciousness

Carry on, confidently

What more does a man stand to lose
If he’s already lost his confidence?

Many men don’t succeed because they don’t think they can
And it is true also, that many more have much confidence in others
But none whatsoever in themselves

However, the man of absolute confidence
Who says I can and I know
Is by definition a king
Making the kingliest among men
Those who believe they can do, know how to, and then do

Remember, when we behold the beauty and scent of a rose, we forget the thorn
So too, must we look past immediate hurdles, and focus on the goal

Sunset in Spring

I’ve been waiting so long for this moment
I sure hope things steadily obtained are truly long retained
And that the feeling we’ve discovered here, this evening, will never end…

I’ve heard that it’s better to deserve success than to have it
And that the sentiment of pleasure is stimulated in the bosom of the spectator
But you’re not a trophy and I’m not in it for conquest
So pretty missus, believe me when I say that I seek no achievements, only blessings
For in your good graces is where I find favour

Please don’t hide your heart, I beg ya
Be not as the flower that flings its odour where no one is present to delight in the fragrance
Or the gem of glorious ray that dwells in a dark unfathomed cave
Let me discover who you are
Be as free as a bird
I’m willing to go the distance
This can’t be evanescent…

No need for us to be perfidious lovers
And indulgence need not make us sodden either
So let’s toast tonight – gin or scotch – whatever takes fancy
And just like that song by Jill Scott – keep living our lives like they’re golden…

Watching the sunset in spring.
