Green Grove

higher levels of wellbeing
and greater social cohesion
these things we desire and dream
though we fail to design into reality or so it seems
the fabric of society is frayed at the seams

because when prosperity means having excess material things
nothing can rescind our instincts for acquisition
and where there’s greed, envy is green
but not the shade of something flourishing

Excellent summing up of today’s loss of conscience.

  2. I find it difficult, every day anew, to not be sucked into the “more stuff is better” kind of thinking since it is so prevalent around me.
What seems innocent at first (going to garage sales, watching “Antiques Road Show”…) is, after closer examination, only yet another manifestation of ambient greed, everyone for oneself, “the one who dies with the most toys wins” and “the early bird gets… the best deal” and “something for nothing”… to the detriment of having time for meaningful relationships and by disregarding nature that gets more and more destroyed as a side effect to consumerism.

  3. Great observation. I think it’s a common struggle that most can relate to. Thanks for sharing.
